Area: Frómista, Herrera de Pisuerga y Campos

The Canal de Castilla is a major feat of hydraulic engineering from the 18th and 19th centuries, built to transport grain from Castile. At around 207 km across the provinces of Palencia, Burgos and Valladolid, it is now a leisure and heritage space.

How to enjoy it

  • On foot or by bike along the quiet, almost flat towpaths.
  • Seeing the locks and bridges, such as the Frómista flight, one of its best-known views.
  • By boat on the stretches and dates when trips are organised.

A good half-day plan for families that pairs well with a visit to the Romanesque church of Frómista.
